I think most of us can agree the SN197 Mustang plateform produced several legends that will highly collectible and memorable in the decades to come. But which would you rather buy right now. !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! stunning Shelby GT500 with the SVT package? Or !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! beautiful Boss 302. One is a billed as a luxurious grand tourer with an engine derived from the Ford GT super car. And the other is a more focused corner carver that is down on horsepower but is maybe just a little bit more special. Honestly for me the Boss and the GT500 both captivated me and are both dream cars. I would be blessed to own either but picking which to buy for me is an almost impossible task.
What say you Oppo?
![]() 06/28/2016 at 09:49 |

I’d take the 302. While brute horsepower is great and all, handling is nice, and I’m a sucker for the 302.

Horsepower

How did you get into my head.......
![]() 06/28/2016 at 09:55 |
|
I made my choice.
Best of both. 2013 Boss with Gt 500 wheels. Zero regrets.
![]() 06/28/2016 at 09:55 |
|
Gt500. If I want a track car I wouldn’t pick a mustang anyway
![]() 06/28/2016 at 09:56 |
|
I would never call a GT500 a “luxurious grand tourer”
It's a muscle car. That's what it is. A muscle car. Muscle cars aren't grand tourers, grand tourers aren't muscle cars.
![]() 06/28/2016 at 09:56 |
|
Also this GT500 is better https://www.cars.com/vehicledetail/…
![]() 06/28/2016 at 09:57 |
|
I like the looks if the Shelby more, and since I would Roadtrip it much more frequently than track it that would be my choice.
The 200 mph one started in 2013 right?
![]() 06/28/2016 at 09:57 |
|
Gt500. It’s going to be worth more in the long run, it’s faster, it’s better looking, it’s the last REAL Shelby :( not that the new ones aren't bitchin.
![]() 06/28/2016 at 10:11 |
|
In terms of Mustangs the GT500 is as close as you can get to a grand tourer. Massive horsepower and all the luxury goodies. But you're right it isn't exactly a GT car.
![]() 06/28/2016 at 10:12 |
|
Yes 200mph was 2013. And I think I am in your boat too. I would use my car for the road a lot more than the track so I think the GT500 would be the car I would have but for a Sunday morning drive I'm not sure which would be more fun.
![]() 06/28/2016 at 10:13 |
|
It's higher mileage and doesn't have stripes!
![]() 06/28/2016 at 10:13 |
|
Real? What makes it more real?
![]() 06/28/2016 at 10:14 |
|
I have a 302 on my wall. But I own a Shelby GT500 shirt. The choice is very hard
![]() 06/28/2016 at 10:14 |
|
Literally I ask this question all the time
![]() 06/28/2016 at 10:14 |
|
That's a good way to look at it I guess
![]() 06/28/2016 at 10:14 |
|
There is no substitute
![]() 06/28/2016 at 10:15 |
|
The GT500 wheels look amazing. The real question is how does the GT get any love with a Boss in the driveway
![]() 06/28/2016 at 10:15 |
|
The man drove one and was alive to approve his name going on to it.
![]() 06/28/2016 at 10:16 |
|
True but wasn't the whole car designed my SVT?
![]() 06/28/2016 at 10:16 |
|
How do you want to use it?
Are you going to track it, like road race style or occasional drag strip duty? Or just daily drive it and not bother with either track?
Road track: Boss. Drag strip/cruiser = GT500
![]() 06/28/2016 at 10:16 |
|
May have higher miles but has recaro’s and touch screen
![]() 06/28/2016 at 10:17 |
|
now do a higher mileage comp and see what comes out, casue BOSS 302 is sub 30k for some
![]() 06/28/2016 at 10:19 |
|
If you’re going to buy a truck, why not buy one with a bed you can put things in?
![]() 06/28/2016 at 10:20 |
|
Would be a fun weekend cruiser and drag duty very occasionally. Long road trips would be nice too. So probably Shelby I guess
![]() 06/28/2016 at 10:20 |
|
Oh of course. But he at least got to be involved:
![]() 06/28/2016 at 10:21 |
|
I guess we have different priorities. I would want Le Mans stripes and Recaros seem hard to get in and out of
![]() 06/28/2016 at 10:22 |
|
But then you can also get an older GT500 at that price. In which case the same question still applies
![]() 06/28/2016 at 10:23 |
|
This truck has heritage, a manual, and can smoke tires at the push of a pedal all from the show room
![]() 06/28/2016 at 10:23 |
|
They aren’t I’m a big guy, 6'4". 230 lbs it fits me perfectly. Also you can always add the stripes. They aren’t expensive.
![]() 06/28/2016 at 10:24 |
|
I’ve been trying to get the wife to sell that for years. No go she loves it. So brake kit is in garage uninstalled and I’m picking out suspension now. So it’s getting a little love.
![]() 06/28/2016 at 10:24 |
|
I would go BOSS newer engine and better handling. the old GT500 while good doesn’t have the right feel next to the newer ones.
![]() 06/28/2016 at 10:24 |
|
They still made MT F150s in 2012.
![]() 06/28/2016 at 10:25 |
|
Yeah that’s better suited to the Shelby’s skill set.
![]() 06/28/2016 at 10:27 |
|
I didn’t realize they had him there throughout development. I knew he was “involved” but I figured it was always more just a marketing statement to get people to buy into the heritage.
![]() 06/28/2016 at 10:27 |
|
Maybe I just need to climb into more of them then. I have only been in a few at auto shows
![]() 06/28/2016 at 10:28 |
|
His and hers Mustangs. Seems like a dream garage to me
![]() 06/28/2016 at 10:29 |
|
I think I would have to agree. But then again it is a Shelby and that means something
![]() 06/28/2016 at 10:29 |
|
Yeah but no heritage or tire smoke
![]() 06/28/2016 at 10:31 |
|
I think even with that in mind I would still have to drive both to be sure. And it is worth noting you can find some of the Boss 302s at a cheaper price point. 32k instead of 38k
![]() 06/28/2016 at 10:31 |
|
Unfortunately that video was very close to the end of the Legend’s life so he didn’t drive. But he was involved until the end. Cool dude.
![]() 06/28/2016 at 10:31 |
|
One of our counties greatest automotive icons I would say
![]() 06/28/2016 at 10:33 |
|
Yeah, the GT500's were more commonly upgraded with options like touch screens and stuff if you’re into that thing.
![]() 06/28/2016 at 10:34 |
|
And I would concur.
![]() 06/28/2016 at 10:34 |

Boss 302
![]() 06/28/2016 at 10:36 |

Don’t forget the p71 and fost.
Took a little while but life is good.

F150 has no heritage and can’t smoke tires?
![]() 06/28/2016 at 10:40 |
|
Friend of mine has a 2014 GT with the track pack and his seats fit me perfectly
![]() 06/28/2016 at 10:41 |
|
Also a BOSS means something as well. Shelby wasn’t even made at the Shelby plant.
![]() 06/28/2016 at 10:42 |
|
302. No doubt.
![]() 06/28/2016 at 10:52 |

Living the Ford car life.
![]() 06/28/2016 at 10:57 |
|
Boss. Those gen Shelby’s are poop.
![]() 06/28/2016 at 11:26 |

Married a dearborn girl. Car purchases are easy to negotiate when it involves ford. I swear they put something in the water over there.
![]() 06/28/2016 at 11:51 |

Fordite.

tbh I wanna buy a lot of their stuff
![]() 06/28/2016 at 12:11 |
|
You can find it on etsy too. Neat stuff.

Supercharger whine is addictive.
![]() 06/28/2016 at 12:32 |
|
Well my mom and dad had his and her Mustangs in the 60's, brother bought the GT in 88 and I graduated from Fordson. Yeah the water is tainted, damn the Rouge River and that magnificent bastard Henry Ford...taking my money like candy from a baby. Here’s a shout out for Ford’s performance line.
![]() 06/28/2016 at 12:38 |
|
Touch screen maybe. Glass roof? Yes.
![]() 06/28/2016 at 12:39 |
|
Why because NA?
![]() 06/28/2016 at 12:40 |
|
Now that is a garage I would love to come home to everyday
![]() 06/28/2016 at 12:40 |
|
Not at the same level of a Mustang
![]() 06/28/2016 at 12:41 |
|
I know. But was produced under the watchful eye of Shelby himself. And while Boss does mean something does it carry as much weight as the name Shelby?
![]() 06/28/2016 at 12:41 |
|
I wouldn't say that..
![]() 06/28/2016 at 12:42 |
|
There is something about it I just love
![]() 06/28/2016 at 12:42 |
|
My dads friend from college just got a Boss 302 after years of spec Miata ownership. It's still a great car in the corners.
![]() 06/28/2016 at 14:04 |
|
yes it can. Trucks do great burnouts. All day, no effort. Its all in the torque and lack of weight in the rear
![]() 06/28/2016 at 14:10 |
|
Carries more imo because proven racecar through and through.
![]() 06/28/2016 at 14:37 |
|
It seems like the Boss is one of the best handling cars to ever come out of Ford
![]() 06/28/2016 at 14:38 |
|
My S10 is a baby truck with a 4.3 V6 but needless to say burnouts don't work well on it
![]() 06/28/2016 at 14:39 |
|
Interesting. The Shelby has proven pedigree too though with the Cobra, GT350, and the engine from the 05 GT slightly modified and put in the GT500
![]() 06/28/2016 at 14:45 |
|
Ah but this a question of GT500 and BOSS 302. While I don’t deny Shelby has an amazing racing history the GT500 has no such thing.
![]() 06/28/2016 at 14:54 |
|
a brand new full sized truck will destroy the rears if you want it to
![]() 06/28/2016 at 15:14 |
|
Wouldn't you say having a engine from a Ford GT gives it some racing pedigree?
![]() 06/28/2016 at 15:15 |
|
Probably but it won't do the job like a full blown muscle car
![]() 06/28/2016 at 15:30 |
|
Not at all. The Ford GT took 3/4 of the engine from the 2000 SVT Cobra R and it didn’t race much if at all. While yes the car you would think have some good road car heritage, racing belonged to the GT350 and BOSS 302.
![]() 06/28/2016 at 16:16 |
|
I was under the impression a lot of privateer teams raced the GT with a good bit of success
![]() 06/28/2016 at 16:19 |
|
While I will say there were some good privateer racers the GT500 never was a race car, at all.
![]() 06/28/2016 at 16:32 |
|
No but it got a engine from a racing car. Modified obviously for the road but nevertheless that gives it some racing pedigree
![]() 06/28/2016 at 16:34 |
|
Boss 302. Every. Time.
![]() 06/28/2016 at 16:37 |
|
But why though?
![]() 06/28/2016 at 16:41 |
|
Not exactly, the Privateers used a 5.4NA that is more akin to the 2000 Cobra R then the Shelby GT500
![]() 06/28/2016 at 17:16 |
|
Interesting. I didn't know that. That's pretty cool actually
![]() 06/28/2016 at 18:01 |
|
I’ve never driven either but I’ve heard the 302 handles better and the power it has is more usable instead of spinning the wheels in the 500. Also better fuel economy for the boss and I think it’s cooler and better looking. It’s closer to my driving ability level than the 500 would be
![]() 06/29/2016 at 02:44 |
|
Ya check the photos of the in pits and such.
![]() 06/30/2016 at 23:59 |

The GT500 was just another supercharged muscle car, the Boss 302 was good enough to put the V8 M3 on notice.
Yellow Boss 302 please
